STONE CHESS SETS (5)

Complete wooden folding chess sets which includes the stone pieces and the wooden board. The idea of a folding set is not new, and it was around for centuries now, but what it actually gives us is the opportunity to store the stone chess pieces conveniently in the wooden folding chess board. From a practical point of view, there’s nothing better!

Most of the sets come with a special velvet cushion inside for the individual pieces, some just have the box, but either way, it’s such a handy way to store everything you need for the game! No wonder folding chess sets became so popular. Plus, they give you a chance to carry a wooden chess set with you, which makes all the difference.

These stone chess sets are a fabulous example of a hand painted decorative chess set which would fit nicely in your living room. The pieces are made from crushed marble stone which is glued together by a resin. All pieces are delicately painted by hand.

Historical Chess Sets
Since chess is a game of battles and war, historical events offer plenty of inspiration for themed chess sets. Almost all of the great, most memorable battles throughout history have had one or several theme chess sets dedicated to it. An interest in historical battles seems to often go hand in hand with an interest in chess, so these historically themed chess sets are always in high demand and make very good gifts!

Fantasy Chess Sets
Fantasy themed chess sets take all the drama of a historical battle and infuse it with more magical or mythical elements. The sky’s the limit when it comes this fantasy chess set!

Immerse in a Medieval battle in England or go on a Fantasy adventure with our themed chess sets – you will find the set to suit your taste.

All pieces have a felted bottom, thus ensuring the beautiful board which comes with this set won’t be scratched by the hard pieces. The boards measures 65 x 65 cm (or 65 x 32.5 cm when folded) and is inlaid with mahogany and sycamore wood. It also has an insert to store all the pieces individually and securely away, thus avoiding the pieces rubbing and scratching against each other. A notation all around the board helps with quick identification of the field coordinate, readable both for black and white.

The chessboards are hand-decorated with a technique called INTARSIA – that is an old form of wood inlaying, start of that technique dates before the seventh century. Thanks to this method, chess has a unique appearance and smooth board surface.

These stone chess sets are not only fun to play with but also represents an excellent choice for the collector or someone who wants to add a piece of decorative art in their living areas – a great eye catcher even for non-chess players. These cool chess sets are, naturally, pricey, but worth their while, as they become an instant showpiece in your home, drawing the attention of every visitor and friend. And its inlay for the pieces and the fold able board mean that it can easily be stored away if you wish so but it needs to be said that it would be a shame to hide such a wonderful piece of chess art away.

    SPARTACUS CHESS

    Rated 5.00 out of 5
    €369.00 more information
Emperors and gladiators and tigers, oh my! These Spartacus and Roman chess set allow you to take part in some of the most ferocious conflicts in ancient history. The city of Rome was founded in 753 BC, but by just 117 AD, it had expanded to include all of modern-day Italy, lands in the Mediterranean, and a huge swath of Europe that included England, Wales, and some of Scotland. The standard chess set makes it easy to view the game as it exists on the board, but for some players, themed chess sets take the game to a whole new level. It features a full set of Roman chess pieces that are each beautifully hand painted and formed from ground marble glued together with resin. Both their intricate detailing and their towering height make these unusual chess pieces an eye catcher. The King pieces, modeled after real historical figures! Even the pawns in this set are taller than the King pieces in many other sets. Needless to say, these size able Spartucus/Roman chess set pieces are also quite weighty. A portable chess set, this isn’t. However, you won’t need to worry about searching high and low for a suitable chess box, because the folding design of the board provides perfectly sized, padded slots for each piece. The chess board is inlaid with mahogany and sycamore wood. As we covered before, it serves as both the chess board and the chess box for this Romans chess set because of its clever folding design. When not in use, the whole set folds up into one compact package. When unfolded, it is immediately ready to play and display. This set is a must for an avid chess player; it's beautiful, stylish and functional. On this kind of chess board, we see more than a bishop removing a rook or a knight knocking out a pawn; we get to watch a fight to the death. Can be set up as a display in any room for decoration, to play it and to remind one of the heroic attempt of the major slave uprising in the Roman Empire in 73 B.C. The Spartacus style pieces are hand painted and a great decorative set. Please note that as these pieces are hand painted, there may be some inconsistencies in the level of detail and colour and therefore your pieces may be very slightly different from the images shown. Any inconsistencies however are minimal.
