GRUNWALD CHESS

The Grunwald chess pieces are made from stone, marble powder glued together with resin. The folding chess board is inlaid with mahogany and sycamore wood. The folding chess board has an insert tray for the chess pieces storage inside. Decorative metal clasps keep the board securely locked after play.
The Battle of Grunwald, Battle of Žalgiris or First Battle of Tannenberg (which took place near the village of Grunwald – thus its name) was fought on 15 July 1410 during the Polish–Lithuanian–Teutonic War. The alliance of the Kingdom of Poland and the Lithuania, decisively defeated the German–Prussian Teutonic Knights. The battle shifted the balance of power in Central and Eastern Europe and marked the rise of the Polish – Lithuanian union as the dominant political and military force in the region.
The Grunwald battle style pieces are hand painted and a great decorative set. The Teutonic Knights are represented by the white pieces while the Polish-Lithuanian army is made out of the black pieces.
Please note that as these pieces are hand painted, there may be some inconsistencies in the level of detail and colour and therefore your pieces may be very slightly different from the images shown. Any inconsistencies however are minimal.
