This small set contains beautiful royal-style chess pieces made of hornbeam and sycamore wood. The foldable chessboard has no inlay for figures inside and is very popular with children. The difference between this set and the Royal Mini is that the board is slightly bigger and the algebraic notation on the sides is burned.
Algebraic notation (or AN) is the standard method for recording and describing the moves in a game of chess. It is based on a system of coordinates to uniquely identify each square on the chessboard.

Nice low cost chess set acceptable for learning to play the game, which we are now doing.

Got this for my 6-yr-old twin grandsons to start them on chess. Great set. All stores away with little straps to hold each piece so it is crystal clear if you are missing a piece before you close and lock the box. We haven’t travelled with it, but it would work well to travel with I think. The wood is nice and downright excellent for the price.
The only downside is that the pieces are not as weighty as I would like. For kids they do tend to fall over a bit.
But this is a nice quality set for the cost. And it keeps the pieces well (not a small feat with kids). And it looks nice on the table.
