The Alcazar chess set has unique, handsomely, slim designed chess pieces made of cherry tree wood that are found in the forests of Europe. Cherry is a beautiful wood, having a fine to medium texture with close grain. The grain is usually straight or slightly wavy. This wood coupled with the craftsmanship of the Carpathian artisans make for some of the finest moderately priced chess sets available in the marketplace today.
This unique chess set has an exotic design. These lovely slender hand carved chess pieces are made in the Carpathian Mountains. The pieces are slightly weighted for balance with green billiard cloth pads for a soft feel on the chess board

First, and to be absolutely fair … it is exactly like advertised. Most important to me, it looks quite nice and is a large board and large pieces. I would buy again at this price but this is a perfect case where you are getting what you pay for – nothing more. Here are a couple of recommendations that would make it an exceptional value for the price:
1. The bottom edging (when opened for play) should have a felt lining. As it is now, it is very worrisome about scratching the table.
2. The clasps should be “swing clasps” so that when the board is open for play, they could be closed so they do not extend above the board nor do they scratch the table on which it sits. Consider putting the clasps on the side of the board too – this way they are not “in the way” while you are playing.
3. Finally, add a few ounces of lead in the bases. They are just slightly underweight. It is not a big deal, but for a board of this price, a bit more “heft” would be appreciated.

I had no idea how beautiful this chess set actually was until I saw it in person. My husband had been asking for a chess set for a while now, but I couldn’t find the right one. When I got home and saw it, it exceeded my expectations. The fine details of gold and craftmanship are amazing.

I loved the size of the pieces – nice and large and carved beautifully. One of the issues for me was the weight of the pieces… they are light. When your playing chess it’s nice to move around pieces that feel substantial. This chess set made a beautiful display

Beautiful set!!! It came very fast. Tall pieces and modern feel. Much nicer than the picture, it has a cooper details in each piece and the board which make it very elegant.
