This classic Tournament chess is one of our middle-sized Tournament chess set and includes the weighted Staunton nr 4 chess pieces from our Olympic set CH 122 made of hornbeam wood. The white squares are printed on the chess board. The folding chess board has been inlaid with mahogany and sycamore wood.
Board is hand-decorated with a technique called INTARSIA – that is an old form of wood inlaying, start of that technique dates before the seventh century. Thanks to this method, chess has a unique appearance and smooth board surface.
Folding chessboard is made of wood mainly of beech, on the side of the board there are two metal locks in gold colour.
Carved figures are made of solid wood (beech) and are glued on the bottom with a green felt.
The folding chess board has an green insert tray for the chess pieces storage inside.
The simplest and most widely used form of chess notation is the algebraic notation. The edges of the chessboard are marked with letters and numbers.
Chess notation is an easy way to record your games so that you can play them back to study tactics, understand mistakes, or impress your friends. Give the notation a try in your next game – you will see that there is nothing more pleasant than the eye-catching exclamation mark behind the move that wins the game.
Much research has already been done into the benefits of chess for the brains of children. This showed, among other things, that children playing chess perform better at school when it comes to skills such as logical thinking, problem solving, math skills, spatial awareness, and concentration.

I already own superior wooden pieces to use with this board. For the price that this set is selling for you absolutely cannot get better deal than this set. Even more value if you need a set of chessmen.
So for any beginner or for a first set everything with this board is great. But if you expect high level chessmen this isn’t the best set. The chessmen are all of the perfect tournament base size and they do have weights in them. Despite that they are still very light and can slide and fall easily. They do look great and have excellent shape and colour. The wood is light and you can see the lines or pores where the chessmen were cut in manufacture.

The board is professionally crafted and labeled; the outside of it does not feel cheap at all, the inside might, but it is functional with its plastic compartment for the pieces that keeps them from bouncing around and getting damaged.
The pieces are beautiful, very nice colours and the sizes and proportions work; they could weigh more, sure, but they are not going to be knocked down by a sneeze. And, you could, if you felt so strongly about it, add some more weight, I am sure.
As the title of my review implies, for its price range, you’re likely not going to get better.

The images don’t do it justice. It is big. The pieces are in wonderful proportion with the board – so once you lay it out, it looks very elegant.
Pieces are substantial. I love playing with this chess set, because there is a lot of pleasure in taking the opponents pieces in real life. You never get that on software. The set as a whole should last you for years to come and it will serve its purpose adequately. Also – any guest you invite to play on this – is going to be intimidated – because the chess set has this air of serious gravitas around it. Like the knights and pawns will frown upon you on stupid moves! So it will play to your advantage.
However, if you are expecting perfection and craftsmanship – then this set is not for you. You need to shell out top dollar for that – i.e. $200 plus minimum. So don’t expect intricate carvings and symmetrical toning of pieces. Its a regular – play with it every day – doesn’t matter if you drop the pieces a few times – kind of chess set. And it will last well worth its price.

Das Schachbrett ist groß, professionell verarbeitet und beschriftet. Das Äußere fühlt sich überhaupt nicht billig an, das Innere vielleicht, aber es ist funktional mit seinem Kunststofffach für die Teile, die verhindern, dass sie herumspringen und beschädigt werden.
Die Stücke sind schön, sehr schöne Farben und die Größen und Proportionen funktionieren; Sie könnten zwar mehr wiegen. Und Sie könnten, wenn Sie sich so stark dafür fühlten, etwas mehr Gewicht hinzufügen, da bin ich mir sicher.
Für seine Preisspanne werden Sie wahrscheinlich nicht besser werden.
